Dynamic Director Sought for Exceptional Youth Orchestra The Musical Arts Youth Orchestra of Bloomington, Indiana, seeks a conductor for its 2007-2008 season. Primary requirements for this job are enthusiasm, an exceptional love of music, and a charismatic ability to work well with students aged 8 to 18. Duties include conducting weekly rehearsals during the September-December and January-May semesters; conducting two or three orchestra concerts per year; handling (along with other staff) all auditions; recruiting participants; traveling to schools in other Southern Indiana counties to offer assistance to music teachers; networking to forge ever more and stronger bonds between MAYO and other organizations and individuals; selecting, in consultation with MAYO staff and board, musical programs; locating and acquiring music to be played; handling the marking of parts and the creation of complete master sets to be copied for use in rehearsals; coaching in the chamber music program; and offering occasional sectionals as needed outside of weekly rehearsal time. The conductor will attend monthly board meetings and may also be expected to help contact and secure guest soloists and clinicians. This is a job that will be defined by the inclinations of its holderan unusually supportive board stands ready to help an ambitious, far-seeing director realize bold, original, even trendsetting projects.
